Villa Defeat Means Newcastle Only Have to Beat QPR To Be Safe But…
This morning we ran [intlink id=”28482″ type=”post”]an article[/intlink] containing the various permutations on Newcastle staying up and one of them meant United could be safe by 5pm on Sunday depending on results.
The first part of the equation was Villa losing to Demba Ba’s Chelsea today, which they did despite Chelsea trailing by a goal for much of the match.
This is what part of the article said this morning;
That would mean we didn’t need a result from the final game of the season against Arsenal.
The way this can happen involves the correct result coming about in two games.
The first, interestingly, is on Saturday. There is only one Premier League match on Saturday; Villa v. Chelsea. We need Chelsea to win that one.
All of the other games this weekend are on Sunday because of the cup final.
With the benefit of the knowledge of a win for Chelsea on Saturday, we would then need Newcastle to win at QPR. That would give us 41 points and because Wigan play Villa on the final day, they wouldn’t both be able to reach 41. That would make us safe by Sunday evening.
So not a bad result for ourselves BUT there has been another twist.
If Newcastle don’t beat QPR then we could be needing Villa to beat Wigan on the last day, the problem there is that by far their best player, Benteke, was sent off today and misses next Sunday’s match!
You might have guessed there would be a sting in the tail!
If Wigan win the FA Cup BetVictor will refund losing Correct Score, First/Last Goalscorer, Scorecast & Man of the Match bets up to a maximum of £50 per person/house. For full terms and conditions click HERE
