Two Thirds Of Newcastle Fans Would Replace Alan Pardew
At the end of each season we run a fans’ poll in our magazine, asking readers to vote on all kinds of topics to do with Newcastle United.
We then collate the thousands of votes and publish all the results in the summer special (out on 8th June – pre-order in our online shop – only £3) of our magazine.
Yesterday we asked ;
‘Are You In Favour Of Alan Pardew Still Being Manager Next Season?’
I wasn’t sure what reaction we would get and whilst I did think it would be mixed, I never imagined that two in every three Newcastle fans would want rid of him.
I personally voted yes and would want him to be our manager this coming season, for all kinds of reasons. However, a massive majority of 63% wanted rid, compared to only 37% who want Pardew’s services retained.
This wasn’t any mackem plot either, from the very start the voting was consistent with the two to one bias continuing all the way through the voting.
While fans will almost unanimously get right behind whoever the manager is, once the season starts, it isn’t the best basis to start a season where it is essential Newcastle bounce back.
One perception is that the manager doesn’t stick up enough for what he knows the team/squad needs, in terms of new players, as happened last summer.
So a big help would be if Alan Pardew manages to persuade Mike Ashley to strengthen the squad with the right calibre of signings.After that it is then down to the manager, no doubt about that.
Without significant team strengthening this summer Newcastle are very likely to be in major trouble next season, whoever the manager is.
Thanks to the thousands of you who voted and watch out for our next Fans’ Poll question coming up shortly.
