The Sale Signs Go Up At St.James’ Park

The recent launch of Newcastle United’s latest away kit could hardly even be called low key. Nothing from the club until a couple of days before going on sale.

In the past we had midnight launches and queues around the block, along with free grub and entertainment. Like everything else though now at St.James’ Park, everything but the bare minimum has been dispensed with. With some club shops also closed down,  it is almost as though they aren’t bothered how much the official shops turn over…

Back to our latest shirt launch, who would you use to promote the new line?

Well in the case of a football club it looks quite obvious; list the players who will definitely be at Newcastle next season and then from those pick the ones with the star quality and charisma to model them.

We got Steven Taylor Taylor and Rob Elliot.

Both seem canny lads and I would have Taylor, just about, in my first eleven on the pitch but if I was given the job of selling the shirts to a worldwide audience, neither would be within spitting distance of the first eleven.

What can we take from this?

Is it that everybody else is a ‘possible/probable’  to leave, or is it that like a lot of things at the club these days, they were just the first two who came through the door and got the job? I suppose in that case it could have been worse; Obertan and Gosling?

Of course last season we had the ironic/amusing/annoying instance of the official NUFC calendar featuring Demba Ba as ‘Mr January’ – how we laughed.

On the subject of merchandise, while we have Elliot and Taylor trying to ‘sell’ our latest strip, a quick look in the club shop tells us that t-shirts have had prices slashed for those featuring Cisse, Tiote, Sissoko, Debuchy, Gouffran, Cabaye and Ben Arfa…

While the ‘Magpies In Europe’ one is down to £2, hurry while stocks last!
