Pardew Witch Hunt Reaches Ridiculous Levels

The Europa League covered up an awful lot of cracks this season and when the spell was broken, there was little sympathy for Alan Pardew flying around after the disasters against Liverpool and the Mackems.

The manager has held his hands up in accepting some of the blame for this past season but it is fair to say that fan views on the future of Alan Pardew are ‘mixed’ to say the least.

However, while I don’t blame supporters for questioning the manager’s line-ups, team selections and so on, things have gone a little crazy after a throwaway remark following Sunday’s match.

With Premier League safety assured, Alan Pardew said (joked!!) that now he didn’t care if we lost 4-0 to Arsenal.

With madness in the air, the manager had to come out today and say the following;

“I know people have picked up on my comments about not caring about the result against Arsenal, which were of course a joke.

It’s definitely not the case that I’d be happy for us to lose four nil against Arsenal on Sunday, I simply want our players and fans to be able to enjoy the game without looking over their shoulders.

Even though we’re now safe, we will be putting in the same effort that we would for any other Premier League game.”

Yes it was a daft remark to make, particularly as with the way this season has turned out, the manager must now know how the media game works when Newcastle are struggling!

A lot of people are genuinely ‘disappointed’ with the manager’s performance this season but I think I’d believe ‘Arry Redknapp before any of you trying to claim that you really believe Alan Pardew doesn’t care if we get stuffed by Arsenal.

After the backlash from the Sunderland & Liverpool matches do you honestly think that isn’t something Pardew is desperate not to repeat?

What’s more, whilst none of us know the exact situation regarding owner and manager, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that a scoreline similar to Liverpool could help push the manager out of the door.
