Newcastle United’s Answer To Gareth Bale?

Santon’s attacking ability improved leaps and bounds this year but with it, his defending worsened.

A permanent move to the midfield would be ideal because there is proper cover at the left back position. Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa’s best matches came at full-back, rather than centre half.

If Colo stays by some miracle, or a proper replacement brought in (Mamadou Sakho, anyone?), then next year’s starting eleven could look something like this:

Krul
Debuchy, Saylor, Colo/Sakho, MYM
Sissoko, Cabaye, Santon
HBA Cisse Gouffran

Does that appeal?

When the impending injury to a starting centre-back comes, MYM could easily slide inside, with Haïdara covering at left back.

Obviously, the striker position could all be different come August but the idea remains the same. If we can bring in another centre-back along with Sakho or whoever replaces Colo, be it Tomkins or somebody else.

Then if we also bring in more quality upfront, PAE/Bony/Carroll along with someone like Andreas Weimann, there could be a very strong Newcastle team returning to Premier League respectability, come next season.

Let me know your thoughts and any possible changes to my ideal starting eleven.
