Newcastle United Reign Supreme As North East Top Dogs

I knew Sunderland would come in handy one day, with defeats for both north east clubs it was only the mackems who split Newcastle United and the relegated clubs.

The north east top dogs award is only handed out when it isn’t Newcastle but even if it was, figuratively speaking, to be handed out this year it would be really scraping the barrel.

Sunderland fourth bottom with 39 points and Newcastle two points better off with 41.

While I’d rather be above than below them, if anybody draws much consolation from that situation then you are only feeding the lack of ambition that has haunted Newcastle United for most of the time that I have supported them.

I hate to say it but a strong Sunderland could only be good for Newcastle United, there is nothing like competition to keep everybody on their toes and in the last thirty odd years you must admit the red and whites have let the side down rather badly.

There is no point celebrating finishing above them, any decent season for Newcastle guarantees that automatically, as have a lot of the mediocre ones we have endured through the years.

The only bright spot is that myself and many of my mates will be collecting money from mackem acquaintances when we go into work tomorrow.

Seeing the plight of Sunderland this season I’d be pretty worried if I thought for one second that we’d only finish one p-lace ahead of them next season.
