Newcastle Target Aubameyang Given ‘Permission To Leave’ St Etienne

In recent days Newcastle have made clear that they aren’t (allegedly) pursuing their interest in Andy Carroll, in response to speculation that the player was desperate to come back and that United were interested in signing him.

Reports since have claimed that Newcastle’s number one strike target is St Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The player has been linked with United for some months and the French club were forced to make a statement in response to claims that the player was on his way to St.James’ Park in the January window. The statement name-checked the Newcastle link and said the player would be staying at least until the end of the season just ended.

Now St Etienne’s manager, Christophe Galtier, has admitted that Aunameyang ‘has been given permission to leave’.

Galtier saying this to RMC;

“He has been given permission to leave, but for that permission to be given, there is a value attached. Of course I would like to keep him if I can.”

The ‘value attached’ is reported to be at least £12m but with Newcastle desperate to add goals, you are going to be very lucky to get anybody of that profile for much less.

Willy Aubameyang (Pierre’s brother) who is also at St Etienne added;

“I am looking forward to next season with or without Pierre, he is in charge of his own future.”
