Newcastle Chosen Ahead Of Sunderland Because Of Infrastructure
The recent announcement of Rugby World Cup venues saw St.James Park chosen ahead of the Stadium Of Light to host matches during the Rugby World Cup in 2015.
As usual we have Mackems bellyaching as they miss out to the regional capital.
“I think the Stadium Of Light would have been better than St.James’ Park as fans would be guaranteed a good view wherever they sat.
I’ve heard that the reason Sunderland missed out was because of their infrastructure, not enough hotels or facilities to support the event, which is disappointing too.
The north east is an area dominated by football rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland so it would have been good to have rugby in the spotlight, The fans would have been able to enjoy the togetherness of supporting one team.”
Good to see that it isn’t just the football fans in Sunderland who have chips on their shoulders.
So even though St.James’ Park is a bigger ground with better and more extensive facilities, they should have chosen the mackems?
So tens of thousands of rugby fans would have to arrive in Newcastle, socialise in Newcastle, sleep in their Newcastle hotel beds, but have to go down to Sunderland for the actual match to a stadium that is very hard to get to and from.
