If Cisse Doesn’t Score Newcastle Face Disaster
Alan Pardew has called for a miracle in the next week.
Following the West Ham match he had this to say;
“Goalscoring is an area of the game we’ve got to improve before next week.”
Last season in the Premier League, Ba scored 16, Cisse 13, Ben Arfa 5 and Cabaye & Best 4 each the rest of our squad only scoring 9! Luckily Own Goal scored five as well.
This time around we have Ba 13, Cisse 8, Cabaye 6, Ben Arfa & Sissoko on 3 and the rest of the squad on 8, Own Goal only pitching in with 2 this time.
Sissoko hasn’t a great previous goalscoring record and with Ben Arfa injured for much of the time and Cabaye struggling for form/fitness and often playing in a withdrawn role, why would anybody be surprised we struggle to score goals/
More to the point, how are Newcastle United going to improve their goalscoring in a week when they have struggled so much apart from the obvious candidates?
Before Demba Ba’s departure Newcastle only won one league match when he didn’t score, the late winner by Shola against QPR.
Since Ba left we have only won one Premier League match when Cisse didn’t score, that being the Chelsea win.
If Papiss Cisse doesn’t score against Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United will not win that match. The best we could hope for is another goalless draw like Saturday.
There are no quick fix solutions between now and the next trip to London. Yes we can hope for Ben Arfa to produce a special, or Cabaye to get further forward and score from the edge of the box in open play or a set-piece, or Gouffran to be given a more attacking role and hope it produces more end product.
The truth is though that we may as well say we hope to score from a corner.
Somebody else might score, as well, but no goal(s) for Papiss Cisse and our Premier league survival hopes could be hanging by a very thin thread.
