Failure By Pardew Would Lead To £10m Payout By Ashley
When Alan Pardew was handed his eight year contract it created a lot of headlines, mostly wondering exactly why Mike Ashley was doing this, especially when the average life expectancy of a manager in England is similar to a fighter pilot in the first world war.
Interestingly, with seven years still to go on the contract, The Mail are claiming that they have inside knowledge and that if Pardew was sacked then he would get the full contract paid up, an amount they estimate at the moment being £10m. This is based an understanding that our manager is getting £1.5m a year.
In a further twist they claim it works both ways and that if another club wanted Alan Pardew, then they would have to pay at least the same amount to get his release.
I find it impossible to imagine that somebody who is renowned as so ruthless in business would put himself in such a position as to have pay seven or eight years worth of contract to somebody who by definition would have had to have failed, whether that was on and/or off the pitch.
