Coloccini Claims He Is Committed To Newcastle United

8 years ago

Fabricio Coloccini has spoken out to say that he is committed to Newcastle United and dismissed any ideas that he’d refused to play, or not give 100%.

To be honest, I’ve never really heard anybody accusing Colo of that, apart from the odd conspiracy theorist.

In an interview with the Chronicle, our captain had this to say;

“I heard people said that I wouldn’t play because I wanted to leave and I don’t give 100%

I don’t like to speak to the press too much because I am like that, but I try to speak on the pitch, I can do those things well and I always give 100%.”

The headline theme of the Chronicle’s piece is that Coloccini ‘dismissed talk that he tried to turn his back on Newcastle United’ relegation fight’ and ‘would never leave the club in a mess’.

While I really like Coloccini and once again he showed how good a player he is at West Ham when he easily topped our man of the match poll. You have to say that this is a rewriting of history because it was made quite clear in January that this, leaving Newcastle in a relegation fight/mess, was exactly what Colo wanted to do.

Fans were universally gutted that this was the case, not that he was refusing to play or faking injury etc.

It was made clear that this was all to do with family problems but the fact remains that only because of the contractual/financial implications he stayed.

To their credit the fans were supportive and vocally made that clear when he played.

The Chronicle piece also reports that there will be more talks on our captain’s future in the summer.

I really hope he stays because he is a real asset on the pitch but in the meantime don’t try and take us for mugs.
