Centre-Back Dilemma At Newcastle United
A strange story doing the rounds this morning is Steven Taylor being linked with a move to France.
It is reported that Marseille have been keeping an eye on Taylor since his recovery from injury this season.
The story in The Journal suggests that the interest could have been initiated thanks to Taylor changing agents to Willie McKay, who has many contacts in France.
It would almost be a ‘Coals To Newcastle’ type move, considering the quantity of decent players exported from over the Channel. Though Joey Barton has done surprisingly well at the French club since his loan move last season.
While it is hard to imagine Taylor showing any interest if the interest was followed up, you just never know in football, especially if a player ends up surplus to requirements.
Centre-back is possibly the hardest position to predict what is going to happen between now and the season kick-off in August.
Coloccini’s future shrouded in doubt, Mapou still getting used to the English game and looking impressive at full-back, while Taylor himself always looks a better player with Colo alongside him.
Plus once again this week, Alan Pardew has talked yet again about the need to bring in a tall dominant centre-back who would also give you goals.
The starting point in all of this has to be getting the Coloccini situation sorted out in a positive way, if he left then Newcastle will be much more than just a man down already.
