A Bar In Australia – Newcastle Supporter Meets Arsenal’s No.1 Fan
There are certain luxuries in my life.
One is to sit in my local bar (Noosa Banks – Queensland), very proudly wearing my NUFC polo shirt, enjoying a couple of Aussie pies (they are serious meat pies and not for the faint hearted) and a bottle of really good Australian red wine, while reading the latest copy of The Mag.
Last Thursday afternoon around 110 hours after the final whistle of our match against Arsenal, I was approached during this very enjoyable time of the day by an Arsenal ‘fan’.
The conversation went more or less as follows…
HIM “You a Newcastle United fan then?”
ME I replied, “Yes, I have that GREAT AND SUPREME honour.”
HIM “I am a Gooner, member of the Highbury Army! When I lived in the UK I went to every match home and away. My mates called me Tony the Gooner.”
ME “You are a serious Arsenal fan then”. ..just wishing he would go away. I commented briefly on our match four days ago against his club.
HIM To which he replied, “What was the score?”
In the words of the great Billy Furious, “And They Wonder Why We Drink?!!!”
