The Neutral View – Newcastle Stay Up, Sunderland Go Down

8 years ago

With Newcastle drifting back down towards the edges of the relegation zone, it is interesting to see what the neutrals think of the clubs fighting it out in the bottom half.

Football pundit Alan Smith (Ex-Arsenal/England) has been looking at the clubs in the bottom half and this is what he had to say about Newcastle and our nearest and dearest rivals;

Newcastle United

With the Europa League clouding the picture, Alan Pardew must hope that his players can summon the urgency to claim the two wins needed for survival.

They should be OK, players such as Yohan Cabaye and Papa Cisse can steer this side to safety (12th).

Sunderland

Of all the sides scrapping for their lives, this one must go down as the hardest to gauge now that the combustible Paolo Di Canio has taken over.

Can the Italian inspire a group of players shorn of confidence and belief? Looking at their fixtures Di Canio might have to be patient (19th).

In his piece in the Telegraph, Smith expects the full picture to finish something like this;

12th Newcastle
13th Stoke
14th Southampton
15th Norwich
16th Villa
17th Wigan
18th QPR
19th Mackems
20th Reading

Let’s all hope he is right and Papa(!!) Cisse can bang in the goals to see us alright.

What do you think?
