Sunderland Fans Getting Upset Even When They Beat Newcastle

I know Sunderland beating Newcastle United is a big event, like anything else that rarely happens.

However, you would think that after taking away three points and a three goal winning scoreline their fans would for once have nothing to moan about, wrong!

When Newcastle have regularly won the derby matches I can’t say I’ve ever given a toss what their fans think. If they’ve claimed we’ve been lucky or the referee has got it wrong, it just makes the whole thing funnier.

After yesterday’s fiasco though, in numerous places I have seen mackems complaining, mainly because Newcastle fans believe the main reason for the debacle was United being rubbish, rather than the mackems suddenly becoming the new Barca/Brazil.

I saw on this website yesterday a comparison with our 4-1 win in Shearer’s last ever match, which I think is fair comment. That day Newcastle were average in the first half and then played a bit better and got the run of the ball and put their chances away, while the opposition were disjointed.

Yesterday it wasn’t dissimilar, Newcastle were all over the place and repeatedly picked the hard ball, continually losing the ball instead of patiently working it forward.

On the other hand the mackems kept it simple and ended up scoring with three strikes from the edge or outside of the box.

Newcastle had more chances, more overall shots, more corners and so on but couldn’t put it in the net, then when we did it was incorrectly ruled offside.

However, many Sunderland fans seem to think they’ve still been robbed because we won’t admit they played some kind of total football.

I think the reality is that Di Canio’s players probably did play close to the limits of their abilities while Newcastle’s players were nowhere near theirs.

Very strange that their fans are getting all upset about this reality as I know which set of supporters should be disappointed with their players and upset this morning.
