Play A Midfield 3 Of Cabaye, Tiote & Jonas To Save Newcastle

Those blaming Pardew, fair enough, you probably have lots of valid points about tactics, team selection and motivational issues. In all honesty; who cares? Our team is heading for the Championship for the second time in 4 years.

It seems most either think we will stay up, or if we don’t it’s entirely Pards’ fault. I think neither.

What we had last season, particularly in the last ten games, was a clear structure and a style of playing that got results. Without the ball we worked efficiently and counter-attacked superbly. This season, can you honestly remember the last time a Newcastle player had a really good game, based mainly on his performance when the other team had the ball? I can’t.

With the ball I still don’t think we are that bad but the shocking loss of form of Tiote and Jonas has badly affected the team. These two used to do the ‘unseen’ jobs, the hard defensive work off the ball that gives a team a platform to build from. If manager, I would try and re-create the midfield 3 from our amazing run last season; Tiote, Jonas and Cabaye, even though all three are currently turning out excuses of performances. Then have Sissoko and Ben Arfa tucked in behind Cisse/Shola.

I doubt our LMA manager of the year will do this, but he needs to do some sort of tactical re-shaping very, very quickly. Part of me thinks time has already run out so why bother?

Those saying we will stay up (including many expert pundits) seem far too confident.

If you have watched our last 3 league home games then answer me this, where will we get our points from? The general rule of the Premier League, as we all know, is that if you get to/past 40 points then you’re safe (bar that West Ham team).

Anything less than 40 points you can’t have any complaints if your team then goes down. It’s almost out of your hands if you don’t reach 40. I’ll say it now; we will not get to that magic total. I can see us getting a point v QPR at best, The West Ham ex-magpie band are probably licking their lips at a chance to put us deeper in the mire. Arsenal put seven past us earlier in the season so on current form we will be lucky to avoid double figures.

You might think I’m just a moaner but I honestly think this is how our season will end, the dreaded drop and looking forward to Doncaster away. Let’s worry about Pardew’s contract, Colo leaving and Cisse’s lack of conviction in the summer.

Right now, please, just support and pray that something changes (not that I’m a religious man). We don’t deserve another relegation so let’s sing, shout, even applaud the simplest of passes, and just get back that good feeling.

Even if the players don’t deserve it, we owe it to ourselves! One of the key memories from Villa Park, May 24th, 2009, was that we wimped out the division. At the very least this great club can’t do that again

In the summer we will have plenty of time to pick the bones of our season and our club. In the meantime, Newcastle United will never be defeated.
