Pardew Injury Update For Liverpool

Alan Pardew has gone into some detail about the injury/fitness situation for the Liverpool match on Saturday but I’m not sure we are any better informed than we were before he said anything.

At his pre-match press conference, the manager did rubbish stories this week that Papiss Cisse was suffering with a rib injury and had traveled to see a specialist in Paris, so he is one player we can expect to see on the pitch against the scousers.

However, this is what he had to say about other ‘possibles’;

Hatem Ben Arfa

“He (Ben Arfa) has worked a lot better this week and we are hopeful that he is going to make more of an impact, whether he plays from the start or off the bench.”

Fabricio Coloccini

“Coloccini has missed 7 weeks but he has trained the last two days and it’s positive that he looks so well.

It just goes to show the attitude and the conditioning of the player that he looks in such good shape.

I’m not sure that he is in my thinking for Saturday but he’s in my thinking for between now and the end of the season.”

Cheick Tiote

“Tiote has trained for three days and he looks in good shape – if we do decide to use him.”

My take on it is that if Cisse isn’t playing then it would make Pardew look pretty daft, so I think we can assume he will be playing.

I don’t think think there is any chance of Colo playing but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the bench in some kind of morale boosting role, though with no intention of putting him on the pitch.

With Ben Arfa, again I don’t think he’ll start. Previous comments from the manager have stated he’s liable to break down again if used too much, plus I think Pardew will be desperate to have him as a saver on the bench if things go pear-shaped.

As Tiote has played in pretty much every important match when fit, or even half-fit, if he doesn’t start in such an important match then I think we can take it he is some way off full match fitness.

Uncertainty is the name of the game and pretty much sums up our season.

Great odds available for the Liverpool match, especially if you aren’t already a customer of BetVictor and take advantage of their special offer of a £25 free matched bet.
