Pardew Injury Update After Benfica
With four matches in eleven days Alan Pardew must have been praying that he didn’t pick up any additional injuries when Newcastle took on Benfica in Lisbon.
With both Danny Simpson and James Perch limping off in the second half, the manager was asked about the injury situation post-match;
“Hopefully they are OK, I think Perch is probably slightly worse than Danny (Simpson) but we’ll have to wait and see.
It has been hard for Danny and he showed a little bit of confidence tonight, like his old self. A great pass for the goal and he’ll get a big lift from that.”
Fingers crossed that Mathieu Debuchy is able to come back in on Sunday against Fulham but at the very least Alan Pardew will be hoping that both Perch and Simpson are alright for next Thursday’s return leg.
The bench last night showed Newcastle were down to the real bare bones and any further injuries would be a killer, though there could be a chance of Massadio Haidara coming back in for that Benfica match at St.James’ Park.
