Newcastle United Make Top Ten Of Best Supported European Clubs
Newcastle United are heading for their first average league attendance of over fifty thousand, for the first time since Mike Ashley’s first season in charge.
Despite hovering on the edges of the relegation zone, the crowds have been remarkable, especially with the extra European fixtures as United have progressed to the Europa League quarter finals.
Where do we figure though in the best supported clubs across Europe?
German website stadienwelt.de has compiled the average league attendances across Europe and Newcastle sit proudly in the top ten (one curious thing that stands out are the positions of Rangers and Celtic, considering their respective leagues).
(1) 80,451 Borussia Dortmund
(2) 75,527 Man United
(3) 73,615 Barelona
(4) 72,118 Real Madrid
(5) 71,000 Bayern Munich
(6) 61,068 Schalke
(7) 60,077 Arsenal
(8) 52,494 Hamburg
(9) 50,194 Ajax
(10) 50,061 Newcastle United
(11) 49,813 Stuttgart
(12) 48,990 Borussia Monchengladbach
(13) 47,000 Man City
(14) 46,981 Eintracht Frankfurt
(15) 46,037 Inter Milan
(16) 45,928 Rangers
(17) 45,340 Celtic
(18) 44,885 Feyenoord
(19) 44,695 Liverpool
(20) 44,353 Fortuna Dusseldorf
With all the financial advantages the Premier League have, then if you combine it with Newcastle’s massive fanbase, there is no reason why we can’t in the longer term compete at the very top.
It won’t happen overnight but it is an achievable dream that one day Newcastle’s achievements on the field will match the support off it.
