Newcastle United Listed in World’s Twenty Most Valuable Clubs
The respected Forbes have just released their annual list of the twenty most valuable football clubs in the world.
The Forbes report – ‘team values are enterprise values (equity plus debt) that are based on multiples of revenue that teams get from television, premium seating, media, licensing, merchandise and concessions’.
Their headline news is that for the first time since they started compiling their most valuable football club list in 2004, Real Madrid have overtaken Manchester United as the most valuable in the world.
Real Madrid’s value at the top of the pile is now put at £2.15Billlion while Manchester United are’ ‘only £2.09Billion.
Of much more interest closer to home is that Newcastle United have been included in the top twenty with an estimated value of £174m.
The financial dominance of the English Premier League is reflected in the fact that as well as Newcastle, six other Premier League clubs feature in the top twenty. Germany and Italy are next in line with four clubs each.
If anybody thought that football was heading into any kind of a downturn, the fact that the average value of the top twenty clubs has increased by 26% from last year, is strong evidence that the opposite is the case.
