Newcastle United Get Another Referee Relegated
Following the debacle at Wigan, the referee, Mark Halsey has to this day still not been given another Premier League match to take charge of.
Over a month later Halsey has instead been sent to the likes of Coventry, with Howard Webb now looking as though he has been sent down the same route.
The Daily Mirror are reporting that Webb, who took charge of the World Cup of course, has now been relegated to League One and the slightly lower profile clash between Colchester and Shrewsbury.
Not quite the same spotlight for the referee as he had at St.James’ Park, where he was blamed for getting a number of decisions wrong, including not spotting an alleged penalty against Taylor and the onside/offside ‘goal’ by Cisse.
I think it is slightly harsh on Cisse’s disallowed effort because surely that was only down to the linesman, while there were also claims he could have sent Gouffran off when he got booked, but I didn’t even rate that a foul as it looked accidental.
There will be little sympathy for Webb from Newcastle fans though as he’s hardly been much of a friend to Newcastle over the years, especially when we’ve played his team (Man.U.!) and while he wasn’t the reason United lost on Sunday he didn’t help matters with giving Sunderland the benefit of the doubt on a number of decisions and doing little to stop their time wasting.
