Newcastle Keeper Shrugs Off Injury To Face West Brom

As well as the dismal result and performance against Sunderland, the cherry on top of the derby cake was that Newcastle appeared to be facing a goalkeeping crisis ahead of the remaining five matches.

Tim Krul’s dislocated shoulder has definitely ruled him out until next season, with an operation coming up shortly. In the same match though, his replacement Rob Elliot picked up an ankle injury.

So it was looking as though the soon to be on his way Steve Harper, was going to be the only fit and available keeper.

Happily though, Rob Elliot has returned to training and is expected to line up at the Hawthorns on Saturday, with Harper likely to be on the bench.

Elliot of course could count himself unlucky to have lost out when Tim Krul was back but to his credit he hasn’t publicly complained and just got on with it.

As we all know, in football and especially Newcastle United, you never know what is just around the corner, so hopefully Elliot will give Alan Pardew some food for thought in these remaining matches.

I’ve got a feeling he could be kept busy…
