Krul and Santon Named In 19 Man Squad For Benfica

8 years ago

The good news is that Davide Santon and Tim Krul have made the nineteen man squad that travels to take on Benfica in Lisbon on Thursday night.

While there had also been encouraging noises about the likes of Cheick Tiote and Massadio Haidara, along with Ben Arfa and Coloccini they miss out.

Alan Pardew named the following nineteen to travel;

Shola, Anita, Bigirimana, Campbell, Cabaye, Cisse, Elliot, Gosling, Jonas, Krul, Marveaux, Obertan, Perch, Santon, Simpson, Sissoko, Taylor, Williamson, Mapou

With Rob Elliot doing well as Krul’s replacement, it will be interesting to see what the manager decides, if I was a betting man I fancy Elliot to play on Thursday night and Krul to possibly come in against Fulham.

On the other hand I’m expecting Davide Santon to go straight back into the team, the only question is whether Alan Pardew thinks he most desperately needs him on the left or right.

My guess would be Santon left and Simpson on the right, allowing Jonas Gutierrez to help out in midfield.
