Alan Pardew Claims Newcastle Have Quality Striker Competition For Papiss Cisse…
Papiss Cisse has rediscovered his goalscoring form, he might still be missing a few but he’s come good at just the right times.
In advance of the second leg against Benfica at St.James’ Park, Alan Pardew was asked if Papiss Cisse was the one player he would never take off because of the chance he’ll score another crucial late goal.
I have got Shola and Adam Campbell breathing down his neck, that is the competition he has with Hatem coming back.”

Most of Alan Pardew’s answer is what you’d expect and whatever the starting line-up, it’s common sense to aim to use the subs wisely to keep the energy levels on the pitch and look after certain players.
However, while I really like our manager, to me he is once again straying into saying a little too much.
Just like earlier in the season when he was trying to blindly convince people that Obertan was flying in training, or that Williamson was as good as the other centre-backs, or that certain other players were capable of doing the job of our missing top players…I think Pardew is falling into the same trap.
Yes we all usually expect Shola to score when we play the mackems and we all hope Adam Campbell one day becomes another legendary Geordie number nine but trying to suggest that they provide any kind of competition to what is currently our sole out and out goalscorer, is a ‘little’ weak.
Gouffran looks like he can be a decent squad player and play various roles in the team but Alan Pardew’s ‘reassuring’ words simply underline the desperate need to sign at least one other quality striker, preferably two, in the summer.
