Backlash Against Idea Of Resting Players For Benfica
The Mag website gives everybody the opportunity to put forward their point of view.
With dozens of writers contributing their views on Newcastle United it isn’t a case of the editorial team agreeing with everything that goes on the website.
An article that stirred everybody up on Wednesday was Russell Hughes article ([intlink id=”27211″ type=”post”]Newcastle Must Rest Players Against Benfica[/intlink]) suggesting the Sunderland match was more important than Benfica and so maybe some players should be rested tonight.
Just because we might not agree wit it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t print it but it has stimulated debate and these are some of the comments that other fans replied with. (To comment on articles go to the bottom and leave your commenbt – all welcome!)
Nonsense. You don’t get silverware for staying in the premier league and isn’t that why we follow our team…..for glory? 43 years since we won owt and people advocating weakened teams for European quarter finals.
Some points are valid, but with full houses, four players minimum for Sunday who won’t feature tonight, a week off after so the players can just go for it if selected for both matches, some of Europe’s most coveted talent, I’d let Benfica and 5under1and do the worrying. Two wins are feasible. We now are fearsome at home.
The world-ending importance of Sunday means we have to throw away a chance to progress to a European semi final so that fitness levels are marginally better? Sunderland would love us to be terrorised into agreeing. But Cisse says no. Pardew says no. The whole of Newcastle say no… Except you. Trust me, a 95% fit ‘Mackem Slayer’ can still bang it in against the mackems. Don’t worry about Sunday, focus on supporting the lads tonight and tip the balance in their favour so we can move to within one step of a European final. One step closer to bringing silverware back to St James’ Park. Let’s give them an electric atmosphere.
Radical solution, win both.
i don’t think the fans that have paid to sell out st’ james on thursday night will agree with you. If we hadn’t of beaten fulham then perhaps i would have agreed that the league required full focus, but win we did so lets go for it! A win/good performance will only breed further confidence for the league.
