Arrested Newcastle Fan Claims The Horse Started It!
As well as dealing with the result and performance on the pitch against Sunderland, we have also had to put up with the depressing images and footage of Newcastle residents smashing up parts of their own city.
The abiding image for most will be the footage of a Newcastle fan in a retro United shirt attacking a police horse.

The man filmed punching a police horse during a football riot claimed yesterday he was acting in self-defence.
The Mail are reporting that the man involved is 45 year old Barry Rogerson from Morpeth, who has been bailed until next month.
Though admitting he was indeed the person who punched the police horse, Rogerson has claimed;
“This one particular horse was spooked by a firecracker and charged at me, that’s when I panicked and threw a punch at the horse.
I tried to get him away from me with my left hand and then punched him with my right, it was sheer panic.
It was an instant reaction, I didn’t go out to attack a horse. I’d like to apologise to the horse, to the mounted section and to the people of the north east.”
Explaining why he had a scarf wrapped around his face, he said it was due to having a broken filling in a tooth.
The footage is below.
