Alan Pardew To Have His Captain Back For West Ham

Fabricio Coloccini trained on Monday and is expected to return for the vital match at Upton Park this Saturday.

Colo has been missing for a couple of months after injuring his back during the home win over Southampton.

Newcastle currently have the unenviable record of the worst defence in the Premier League having conceded 66 goals, more than any other team, including QPR and Reading.

Speaking about his captain, Alan Pardew had this to say to the Chronicle;

“I think Colo’s important this week, no disrespect to the two centre-backs who played against Liverpool but I think his leadership is important.

Hopefully he comes through this week and we can get him out on the pitch, with the armband on.”

As to who he would replace if declared fit, I would put my last penny on Taylor playing alongside him. However, tat wouldn’t necessarily mean Mapou going out of the team as he looked impressive when at right-back and could cover Debuchy’s absence.

Interesting to see Pardew also making special reference to ‘with the armband on’, whether this is a further compliment to Colo or a bit of sleight on stand-in Cabaye (or a bit of both), you decide.
