Steven Taylor ‘This Is Where We Belong’

8 years ago

I didn’t have any problem with Cheick Tiote taking over as captain when Yohan Cabaye was forced off but I don’t think we could have gone far wrong if Steven Taylor was given the job.

Taylor personified the spirit of the team last night as Newcastle were up against it for most of the first half.

I lost count of the number of blocks he made and one in particular saw him seemingly arrive from nowhere as he got in the way of yet another goalbound shot.

After the match Taylor was predictably buzzing and he had this to say to the BBC;

“It is a massive result for this football club and this is where we belong.

It is a fantastic night, in the second half we stuck to the task and did it”.

In addition, central defensive partner Mapou Yanga Mbiwa was glowing in his praise when talking to the official club website;

“He’s got every chance to get an international call-up and if he continues to play as well as he is, then the international manager is going to see that.

Steven is a fantastic player and it is great to be alongside him. He is someone who has come up from within the club and he’s been a great player for this club.

He knows the culture of the English game very well and he is somebody I try to listen to a lot, as well as bringing what I know from my experience in France to the partnership as well”.

Steven Taylor might have missed out on an England call-up but I can honestly say I wouldn’t swap him for any of Dawson, Ferdinand, Smalling or Cahill who were included in Hodgson’s latest squad.
