Proof That Right Is Wrong For Davide Santon

We learnt a lot of things on Thursday night against Anzhi but I think we particularly had final proof about one particular player.

Many fans have been crying out for Davide Santon to play on the right, what with him being right footed and all that.

Santon did a decent enough job defensively but going forward, which is a massive part of his game/appeal, he was a non-entity.

Especially when Anzhi had eleven men on the pitch, Davide would do his trademark surge only to then get so far and come to a sudden halt. On the left he breezes inside on his right foot and I would say 8 or 9 times out of 10 he gets past his man and then lays it off or whatever and moves into a position to try and receive the ball back.

The Italian made his reputation as an attacking full-back/wing-back at Inter on the left and while I don’t think it is a weakness for the team if Santon plays right-back, it is a bit like playing Sissoko and saying he can’t go over the halfway line!

Left is right for Davide Santon.
