PFA – ‘There Are Some Things You Can’t Defend’

One organisation that is almost fanatical about not accepting criticism of any of their members, is the Professional Footballers Association (PFA).

Even when one of their members may have a grievance against another one, you hardly ever hear them publicly take sides.

However, in the Massadio Haidara case they are making a stand.

Interviewed on Talksport, the PFA Chairman, Clarke Carlisle, came out strongly in support of Newcastle United’s stance on the FA ‘rules’.

“I agree 100% that this needs to change.

I was shocked and expected them to pull him (McManaman) up for that tackle. Anyone who has seen it knows it was a bad tackle.

You can see that he was enthusiastic and wanted to make an impression, which he did, the wrong one. There are some things that you can’t defend and that was one of them.

Why can’t they (the FA) change it? When they try to take action to change anything it takes them an eon when they are actually in sole control and can make decisions as quickly as they want.

For the sake of the industry they really need to appoint somebody in charge of discipline who can make decisive and quick actions”.

The FA appear to be living in a pre-television age and don’t realise just how foolish they look, when everybody (who isn’t on the Wigan payroll) can see what a travesty this is and yet they still cling to a cobbled together rule that is as clueless as they are.
