Pardew – ‘Ben Arfa Ready For Next Season…Or Next Year?’
Speaking to the Chronicle, the manager has cleared his medical staff of any blame and suggested it is one of those injuries where you just have to see what develops.

I’m guessing that Pardew is speaking out, at least in part, after many fans questioned whether Ben Arfa was brought back too quick at both Fulham and the match in Moscow.
“It’s important for our fans to realise that there’s nobody to blame here, there is no medical team to be drawn in and asked questions of.
It was an injury that was always going to mean a case of finding out what was the right way to go.
Now we’ve to assess again on whether we give him a much longer rest which would be until the start of next year. Or we operate and recuperate him for pre-season.
The most important thing for Hatem and the football club is that he gets a pre-season, he missed this season’s and it isn’t good to miss two.
So that is why I have gone bullish and that is him done for the season”.
It doesn’t bear thinking about how badly this injury news would have hit the club if Sissoko and the rest hadn’t arrived in January.
I just hope this latest operation works the oracle, as I don’t fancy the alternative of resting him until next year!
Alan Pardew has also challenged Ben Arfa’s teammates to step up to the plate and make up for his absence, Wigan tomorrow is as good a place to start as any.
