O’Neill Sacking Disastrous For Newcastle

A sad day for Newcastle United yesterday, the four goal surrender at the Etihad was bad enough but Sunderland sacking Martin O’Neill could potentially be disastrous.

I’m not writing off United’s chances of dragging themselves away from relegation trouble under their own steam but if we are relying on others to help us out then O’Neill being removed is a massive blow.

A poor manager who is given a soft time by his mates in the media, I’ve always felt a migraine coming on whenever O’Neill was linked with Newcastle United.

Not only is there the disappointment of Sunderland getting rid of somebody who I intensely disliked, as was the case with Bruce and Keane, but also somebody who was only taking the mackems in one direction.

Martin O’Neill has repeated the dose he gave Villa, raiding the American benefactor’s deep pockets and wasting a bucketload of cash.

In recent weeks O’Neill has once again been saying that he needed to spend big in the summer as his team was too weak, this after getting relative riches to spend in the transfer market.

Any replacement can’t be any worse than O’Neill and will no doubt give them at least a short-term lift, even if it ends up being current favourite Steve McClaren!
