Newcastle’s Number One Summer Transfer Target Revealed
It looks as though one transfer chase that could have real legs is one that started back in January.
In that winter transfer window, St.Etienne were forced to release the following statement after reports that Newcastle had made a bid for striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Now the Journal have confirmed that Newcastle did indeed make an offer of around £8m in January which was knocked back.
St.Etienne Statement (January)
After rumours about a possible departure of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Newcastle published today in several media, AS Saint-Etienne wishes to clarify that the player, his agent and club officials have declined by mutual agreement all proposals that have been submitted so far.
Recognizing the importance of the challenges facing the ASSE until the end of the season, Pierre-Aubameyang Emercik has always shown a desire to complete the sports project at the expense of financial aspects.
Then only last week, Chief Scout Graham Carr accompanied by Ashley, watched as Aubameyang played for Saint Etienne against Paris-Saint-Germain.
PSG went two goals up before Saint Etienne fought back for a 2-2 draw, though the striker didn’t score.
The Journal have now revealed that Aubameyang is Newcastle’s number one summer target but it looks like they will have to go beyond their opening £8m offer as his agent Oscar Damiani s quoted, “St.Etiene will demand a minimum of £10m.”
