Newcastle United’s Steven Taylor In Line For England Call-up

The time has surely come for Steven Taylor to get the proper international recognition he deserves.

Since his return to fitness, Taylor has clearly been Newcastle’s top defender and playing with his heart on his sleeve, you never get less than 100% from him.

Saturday’s match at Swansea saw Taylor put in another top performance and maybe it was no surprise that it was two other defenders (Mapou and Santon) who got into a mix-up for the goal, I’m sure Taylor would have took command and cleared the danger if he’d been involved.

He actually almost saved the situation when he made a wholehearted attempt to block the shot and it’s likely he would have succeeded if Luke Moore had hit it cleanly.

In our man of the match poll for Saturday, you made Taylor Newcastle’s top man with a deserved 36% of the vote, with Sissoko in 2nd (30%) and then Cabaye on 16%.

While our only priority is Newcastle United, I think on a personal level that full international honours are overdue for our centre-back.

While injuries have played a part, no doubt if he’d moved to London (especially Spurs!) he’d have been in the England set-up in a matter of weeks!

A mainstay for England at under 21 level, I fancy Taylor could make the step up earlier rather than later.

The squad for the San Marino and Montenegro qualifiers at the end of this month will be coming along shortly and I think Steven Taylor will be included, especially with Everton’s Jagielka having ankle surgery after Saturday’s match.
