Newcastle United’s Likely (Technical) Starting Line-Up v Anzhi
The manager has been talking in some detail about the particular challenges of playing on an artificial surface and has had the players training on a local 4G pitch in the north east.

Any of you out there who have played on these modern 4G surfaces know they are a world away from what the astroturf pitches of the past were like.
However, the manager is taking no chances and is going to pick a team to suit…
“We want to win the game, so I’ll play the strongest team I can.
It is a different surface and so it is going to favour some of our technical players, it will be a very technical team I put out”.
So that raises a question of exactly who is ‘technical’ out of our current lot, I’m guessing Gouffran and Debuchy would have qualified but neither are eligible. Another of course is Ben Arfa but the manager has already said that physically he would only be in a position to play 20 or 30 minutes at most.
I can’t imagine Shola or Obertan passing the technical rule and of the players not automatic first teamers at the minute, I’m assuming that both Anita and Marveaux may be seen as more ‘technical’ players suited to the surface.
In addition I have a fancy that Alan Pardew may fancy Santon moving to the right and Haidara making the team ahead of Simpson or Perch.
So I fancy our ‘technical’ eleven turning out as illustrated….and giving our Russian hosts a right game!
