Newcastle United – What A Difference A Month Makes

The last month has been a very good one, if you support Newcastle United.

A humiliating early exit to Brighton in the FA Cup threatened to add to a miserable Premier League season, which saw the club languishing at the wrong end of the table. However, after a meeting convened by Ashley, Carr, Llambias and Pardew, new signings were brought in to strengthen the squad.

The impact that they have had is amazing. Sissoko’s home debut against Chelsea was a sight to behold, as was Gouffran’s whose pace and intelligence up front has given the team a new dimension. Haidara, Debuchy and Yanga-Mbiwa have also looked strong.

A morale boosting and memorable 3-2 win against Chelsea has seemed to kickstart our season. That together with a place booked for the last 16 of the Europa League promises to give fans a lot to be excited about in the closing months in the season.

With a Tyne Wear derby to look forward to, a finish in the top half of the table no longer seems past us.

If a new striker, a new defender and a winger is added in the Summer, with Ben Arfa and Cabaye given new deals, then another top 6 finish may be in the offing next season.

After a nonchalant November, disastrous December and less than jovial January, a fantastic February has given us all something to shout about.

Let’s hope they can keep it going against Swansea tomorrow and carry it right through to the final whistle against Arsenal in May.
