Newcastle United More Than A Match For Anzhi On Stats
In the competition proper (Group matches onwards) these are the respective stats;
Newcastle’s totals first, followed by Anzhi’s in brackets
11 (8) Goals Scored
5 (7) Goals Conceded
33 (34) Attempts On Target
41 (36) Attempts Off Target
35 (40) Corners
28 (16) Offsides
94 (113) Fouls Committed
19 (19) Yellow Cards
0 (1) Red Cards
In the eight matches neither side has scored or conceded many, with Newcastle netting a few less but letting in a couple fewer as well.
The totals of shots and corners suggest that both sides have had similar amounts of pressure and possession, while the foul count points towards the Russians not being shy of getting stuck in.
Thanks to Papiss Cisse and Shola we are well ahead on offsides!
All in all though the stats suggest we shouldn’t be frightened of the opposition and I fancy Newcastle can go there and get a deserved draw, especially after the defensive quality we showed over three goalless (conceded) hours against Metalist.
