Newcastle United Great Finally Honoured By Club

While you wouldn’t find many Newcastle United fans who would claim Jackie Milburn and Sir Bobby Robson weren’t deserving of statues commemorating their achievements, for many supporters there is one man who has been a glaring omission.

Joe Harvey ticks so many boxes as player, captain and manager, that many fans have been disappointed over the years that there has been no lasting tribute to the great man.

After a long campaign, United fans Bill Gibbs and Harry Watson, have successfully got the club to agree to help honour the Newcastle United great.

Bill Gibbs takes up the story;

“It was 4 years ago I first had the dream to have a statue of joe Harvey erected at St.James’ Park to recognise his great work.

We had a meeting with John Irving (of Newcastle United) and we were elated when he said yes.

We’ve agreed on a plaque instead of a statue and it will be fitting for Joe, it will be put on a suitable site on the perimeter wall of the ground.

The club’s also given a substantial donation to the fund.”

A big well done to Bill and Harry for their persistence and hard work, a fitting tribute at last to an all time St.James’ Park great.
