Newcastle Linked Again With Top French International

There has been renewed speculation linking Newcastle United once again with French international centre-back, Mamadou Sakho.

Sources in France claim Newcastle United are one of a number of Premier League clubs chasing the impressive defender.

Left-footed Sakho can also play at left-back and would be a massive coup for Newcastle if they landed him in the summer.

The player only has a year left on his contract and is no longer automatic first choice at PSG, despite currently playing for France including the one goal defeat against Spain.

With Alan Pardew taking in that match earlier this week it has added to the speculation. Sakho made history as the youngest ever captain in Ligue 1 when he made his debut at the age of 17 and wore the captain’s armband.

The player has also made clear that he needs first team football, recently stating;

“I am third choice in the mind of the coach (Carlo Ancelotti).

I have got to play at club level to get picked for France next season and to continue to make an impression I need to play.”

If Newcastle could land Sakho it could rival the capture of Moussa Sissoko, though it is unlikely PSG would let him go for quite the bargain £1.2m that Newcastle paid for Sissoko who only had months left on his contract.
