Michael Owen Admits He Was Never Fully Fit

Interesting comments from Michael Owen, who is never shy about sharing his thoughts with the world.

The latest is that Owen claims he was never ever 100% fit after an early injury.

This is what Michael said on his own online blog;

“I have two over-riding emotions; firstly a sense of pride at what I achieved, but also how I achieved it.

The second emotion is ‘what might have been’, if injuries hadn’t robbed me of my most lethal weapon, speed.

My hamstring gave way in an away game at Leeds at the age of 19 and from that moment my career as a professional footballer was compromised.

I actually take pride in the fact that even when not fully fit, I competed at the very highest level, for some of the biggest clubs in the world.

I’ve no doubt that if I hadn’t suffered these ‘pace depriving’ injuries, I’d be sat here with a long list of records and a sack full of awards.”

Obviously you’d have some sympathy with any athlete who suffers a bad injury but I think you lose most of it when the player goes on to make grand claims of how he would have been the greatest if only…
