Martin O’Neill ‘Sunderland Are A Top Six Club In The Making…’
Newcastle made the fatal mistake of not backing Alan Pardew in the transfer market last summer which meant a small squad have been punished when injuries hit, whereas O’Neill was given a relative fortune of getting on for £25m that he spent on Johnson and Fletcher.
From what I’ve seen they are even worse this season but speaking to The Telegraph, it looks like Martin O’Neill is losing the plot;
“It has been a tough season but I knew it was going to be a tough season for us from August time”.
“Everton is the case in point, there is absolutely no reason why Sunderland can’t be there.
We are not a top-six team by any stretch of the imagination but Sunderland are a top-six club in the making.
I genuinely believe and I’ll believe that until the day I leave this earth”.
I don’t want to state the obvious but August is when you actually start playing matches!
Any number of teams could point to Everton and say ‘that could be us’ but Moyes has built his team/squad against the odds. He’s done it by largely finding value for money players at the lower end of the transfer market, not paying top dollar for players like Johnson and Fletcher who everybody was well aware of.
I hated it when Newcastle used to be linked with O’Neill and if the mackems have done us one favour, it is by employing the clown and showing his limitations.
