French Team A Newcastle Free Zone

France took on Georgia last night in their World Cup qualifier and registered a comfortable 3-1 win to go two points clear after Spain failed to beat Finland at home, only drawing 1-1.

However, the (relatively) surprising thing about the French starting eleven was that it contained no Newcastle players.

Moussa Sissoko did come on in the 67th minute along with QPR’s Loic Remy, but no Tynesdie based players made the starting line-up.

Mathieu Debuchy is of course back in Newcastle getting treatment while Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa isn’t automatic first choice, Yohan Cabaye of course missed our last match at Wigan and it may be fair to assume that Didier Deschamps will be keeping one of his key players for the top of the table clash with Spain on Tuesday.

The good thing from our point of view is that Cabaye hadn’t been risked in a match which always looked a routine win for the French.

As for Sissoko, no reports of him pulling up any trees in his substitute appearance and indeed France already held a three goal lead at the time.
