€40m Clause Claimed For Newcastle United Star
However, one of them is going to take some moving according to reports from abroad regarding a Newcastle midfielder.
Italian website Tuttomercatoweb have ran a story claiming Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Yohan Cabaye in the summer, nothing new there as that’s one that has done the rounds recently.
The difference though with this particular story is that as well as the reported interest from the two clubs, it is also claimed that Cabaye has a release clause in his contract of €40m, which equates to around £34m in our money.
As to the truth of this who knows, but it does set you wondering how much players like Cabaye are worth. With the extra cash coming from broadcasting rights from next season, it hardly seems likely transfer fees will go down, even if financial constraints are introduced by the Premier League.
I suppose if Andy Carroll was worth £35m then you might say Yohan would be a snip at £1m less!
On the continent release clauses are common place and as was recently revealed, even Lionel Messi has one, even though it is astronomical it still exists for the best player in the world.
At this moment in time I would argue Cabaye is invaluable to Newcastle United’s potential progress in at least the short to medium term.
£34m? Cheap at twice the price!
