Cabaye Looking to Make It Sixth Time Lucky

There was nothing wrong with Yohan Cabaye’s captaincy and indeed, nothing wrong with Newcastle’s second half performance, apart from not putting the ball in the net that is.

After the match Cabaye reflected on his new role to the official club website and what it meant to him;

“It means a lot because it is only around the fifth time this (being captain) has happened in my career.

It is a big thing to receive the confidence of the manager for this role.

Nothing changed for me, I just stayed relaxed, stayed focussed, I didn’t want to be different just because I was captain.

It was an honour for me but the main thing is the result and for my first time as Newcastle captain I lost the match.

We did the right things, especially in the second half, and played well – but we lost because we conceded a silly goal.

It was hard to begin with because they wanted to press us very high but the second half though was very good for us, we played in their half and kept the pressure on, creating good chances to score”

Alan Pardew said after the match that even if Coloccini is in a position to play on Thursday he almost certainly wouldn’t risk aggravating Colo’s back due to the astroturf pitch Newcastle will play on in Moscow.

So we’ll be looking for a big perfomance from Yohan as both player and (sixth time) captain, as Anzhi are second favourites to win the whole competition.
