Alan Pardew Pushes Steven Taylor’s England Claims

While Yohan Cabaye captained the team, there was little doubt who was the leader in defence for Newcastle United against Stoke.

Predictably the defence were going to be in for a physical challenge against the visitors and one player was always going to relish this match.

Beforehand Steven Taylor said how much he was looking forward to this game and afterwards Alan Pardew was glowing in his praise for Newcastle United’s token outfield English player;

“Stoke were a threat all afternoon from their set plays, they’re giants and you need to be big and strong which we were, I thought Steven Taylor was England class today”.

With a squad due to be announced shortly for England qualifiers at the end of the month I think it will be a travesty if Taylor doesn’t get recognition this time around, especially with the likes of Jagielka injured.

Though a selfish part of me thinks it best to keep Taylor solely focussed on helping Newcastle to go as far as they can in the remainder of the season.
