Top 3 Newcastle Players v Metalist May Miss Southampton
Predicted to be out for around 5 weeks after picking up an ankle injury, Tim Krul won an overwhelming 61% of your votes when it came to voting in our man of the match poll after the FC Metalist match. The keeper producing a string of superb second-half saves to guide us through into the last sixteen, if there was one player you didn’t want to see injured – many of us would nominate the Dutch keeper.
However, as well as the injured Krul, it looks as though the two players who got the next highest number of votes in Thursday’s poll will also miss out against Southampton.
Shola was in second place on 11% of the votes but I don’t see how you can leave Yoan Gouffran out after the start he has made. In third place was Massadio Haidara (10%) on his debut, looking better and better the longer the game went on, though if Santon has shaken off his ankle knock he will be nailed on to return.
The big positive of all this of course is that, leaving aside Krul’s injury, at long last Alan Pardew has options opening up to him and if we do have to call players from the bench tomorrow, they may well be positive choices rather than just bringing somebody on for the sake of it.
It’s a squad game!
