Striker Gives Pardew Massive Lift
Despite a performance that had many encouraging factors, Saturday’s result brought us all a reality check that there is still some way to go and in most matches the margins between success and failure are minimal.
Up to the hour mark Newcastle were a good match for Tottenham but it was no coincidence that Newcastle fell away a bit after Gouffran was carried off.
Things were looking bad for the French striker as he was given Oxygen on the pitch and TV pictures showed a nasty gash on his shin.
The player was taken straight to the hospital but the great news is that a precautionary x-ray had shown Gouffran hasn’t broken his leg.
Newcastle United released this statement;
“Newcastle United are pleased to report that a precautionary x-ray has shown that Yoan Gouffran has not broken his right leg.
The French forward was stretchered off during the second half of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur and Gouffran will be further assessed on Sunday by the club’s medical staff”.
Anybody who has taken a knock like that to the shin will know how painful it can be at the time but in terms of lasting damage, if there is no break then fingers crossed he should at least be ok for Southampton in two weeks time.
