Odds On Newcastle United Continue To Crumble
Only a mad person would be now aiming at the top six for Newcastle United but with this belated influx of very good players such as Debuchy, Mapou and Sissoko, is a respectable top half position now totally out of the question?
Last two seasons you needed 47 points to finish tenth and at that point Newcastle had 21 points with 15 left and now United stand on 24 points and 14 games left.
To reach that 47 points mark Newcastle would probably have to win six of their remaining 13 matches and then a couple of draws would see them home.
Before Villa you could have got 8/1 on United finishing top half and we predicted that a win would see those odds disappear.
Before Chelsea you could have got 5/1, we predicted the odds would further crumble if United got a massive win and you can see now how the bookies rate all of the clubs here with Newcastle United only 3/1 to finish top ten and the gap has now closed to only three points behind tenth placed Stoke.
No room for complacency and staying up is what it is still all about but we think the reduced odds of 3/1 are still great value, especially if we are to be treated to more of what we saw on Saturday.
