NUFC Europa Opponents Kick Off North East Tour At Whitley Bay!

In an interesting turn of events, Newcastle United’s Europa League opponents, FC Metalist Kharkiv, have set up a friendly against Whitley Bay in advance of the clash at St.James’ Park next Thursday.

With the Ukrainian side currently on their winter break, they look to be taking the European competition seriously arriving so long before the match against United.

A bit of a coup for Whitley Bay, the friendly will take place at 7pm on Sunday night at their Hillheads ground with tickets priced at £10.

Obviously it won’t do our Europa League opponents any harm to experience playing in the north east climate whilst at the same time making a few quid for one of our prominent local non-league clubs.

The FA Vase multiple winners contain a number of Newcastle fans and I’m guessing there will be an acceptance of keeping any naughty tackles out of the match.

With Newcastle away in London at White Hart Lane on Saturday, hopefully it will lead to a bumper crowd for Whitley Bay and we’ll find out a little more about our European opponents.

Prior to the flurry of signings, I think very few of us anticipated any kind of a serious assault on the competition but with a couple of wins under our belts and the extra players at Alan Pardew’s disposal, it is hoped that United will be doing everything to make it through to the last 16.
