Newcastle United Contribute To Record High Of Imported Players

The number of players imported from abroad is growing ever higher, with Newcastle United’s recruitment policy helping it along.

The CIES Football Observatory surveyed the top 32 divisions of UEFA member associations and now 36% of all players grew up in different national associations to that of their employing club.

When it comes to footballers in the most sought after position up front, that percentage goes up to 44% and in England plus five other countries, over 50% of strikers are from a different country; Yoan Gouffran and  Papiss Cisse cases in point.

With prices looking like they will just continue to rise for homegrown players in England, it means it is inevitable that clubs including Newcastle will continue to look for better value beyond these shores.

Whatever happens in the rest of Europe, Alan Pardew and Newcastle United will be relying on  Graham Carr to unearth some more gems like Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and Ben Arfa on the continent.

Why not celebrate Newcastle United’s resurgence with a subscription (prices from £23) to the top selling Newcastle United magazine, new issue out next Saturday. Magazines sent out all over the UK as well as every country around the world you can think of. Order NOW in our online shop .
